Hudson, NH Fire Department
The Hudson, NH Fire Department protects approximately 25,000 residents living in a predominantly suburban area of 29.2 square miles in southern New Hampshire. The town is bordered by Litchfield, Londonderry, Windham, Pelham, and Nashua, NH as well as Tyngsboro and Dracut, MA.
The department, commanded by Chief Shawn Murray, operates from three stations and one administrative office building which are strategically located throughout the town. Thirty-two full-time fire officers and firefighters work a rotating shift schedule consisting of two consecutive ten hour day shifts, followed by the next two consecutive fourteen hour night shifts. They then have the following four days off. Each shift is staffed by one Captain and four firefighters at the Central Station, and one Lieutenant and two firefighters at Station 4. Twelve paid-on-call firefighters augment the full-time staff in a support capacity. Central Station and Station #4 are manned with the full-time firefighters, while Station #1 is staffed by part-time/call firefighters on an as needed basis.
The Department administration includes a full-time Chief, an Operations Deputy Chief, a Support Services Deputy Chief and Training/Safety Officer. The Fire Prevention Bureau includes a Fire Prevention Officer, and an Inspector. The Department also employs two Executive Secretaries.
The Department provides fire suppression, rescue, ALS EMS response, non-emergency medical transport and hazardous materials first response services. The number of calls continues to increase every year. Here are the annual response numbers:

The Department is self-dispatched from its own Fire Alarm Office, located in the Central Station, with four full-time dispatchers working eight-hour shifts. They dispatch on 153,950 and conduct fire ground operations on 155,955 mhz with a PL of 136.5. Hudson Fire Alarm also dispatches the Litchfield, NH Fire Department on 154.190 mhz and the Department provides contracted EMS response into Litchfield.
In addition to numerous housing developments, the town has three large industrial parks and numerous chemical and industrial facilities.
Additional nearby target hazards include the Merrimack River, nursing homes and elderly housing. Litchfield responds to the Manchester airport on an Alert 2 along with a Hudson ambulance, as well as any other special called apparatus. State Routes 3A, 102, and 111 also provide numerous motor vehicle accident responses.
