Feb 17, 1978 - The Blizzard of 78 struck town. The three day storm dumped 21 inches of snow on the ground closed schools and all roads were impassable.

 

Feb 22, 1978 - Pelham - NH - Building fire - Bakery - On arrival the unit in the mall the bakery was located was fully involved. Extra help was quickly called to the scene. Most of Hudson’s apparatus responded to the scene along with crews from Windham, Salem, Londonderry and Dracut Mass.      

 

Feb 25, 1978 - Hudson - NH - Chicken Coop - Old Derry Road Jasper Farm - A 140 foot 2 story chicken coop burned to the ground. Responding crews could see the glow in the sky as they left Central Station.

 

Apr 23, 1978 - Lowell - Mass - 7 alarms - Perry Street - A mill building several hundred feet long by 5 stories high became fully involved with spreading to a nearby warehouse and two homes. Thirty two communities assisted at the scene. New Hampshire departments included Hudson, Nashua, Salem, Pelham and Hollis.

 

Aug 3, 1978 - Hudson - NH - House fire - 41 Gowing Road - The house at the time was under construction. A worker spotted the fire and opened some walls containing the fire until arrival of the department. The fire was listed as arson.

 

Aug 16, 1978 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - 77 Webster Street - On arrival crews found a barn fully involved with fire extending into a house. Crews saved the house but the barn burned to the ground. One resident suffered burns and cuts escaping the fire.

 

Aug 28, 1978 - Nashua - NH - 2 alarms - Franklin Street - A fire in a 4 story, block long apartment building burned causing heavy damage to the building. Hudson Engine 2 laid a supply line into the fire then operated a 2 ½ line in the front of the building.

 

? ?, 1978 - Hudson - NH - Fatal fire and explosion - River Road - A fire in a garage set off an explosion which killed the homes resident. The fire ball from the explosion engulfed the man severely burning him.  A nearby police officer and Fire Chief Nutting were blown down the driveway by the force of the explosion.

 

Nov 24, 1978 - Hudson - NH - House fire - Gambia Street - A single alarm fire caused heavy damage to the single family home.

 

Dec 11, 1978 - Hudson - NH - Trailer fire - 122 Ferry Street - A mobile home was destroyed during a mid-afternoon fire.     

 

Feb 8, 1979 - Londonderry - NH - Building fire - Mammoth Road - Gasoline spilled from a vehicles fuel tank and sparked a fire in a large construction companies building requiring Hudson, Manchester, Derry, Bedford and East Derry crews to control.

 

Feb 19, 1979 - Litchfield - NH - House fire - Charles Bancroft Highway - Hudson crews assisted knocking down the fire on the second floor of the house.

 

Feb 20, 1979 - Pelham - NH - Vehicle accident & fire - A vehicle struck a house along with the homes propane tanks. The escaping gas ignited spreading heavy fire through the home. The vehicles driver suffered burns in the crash. Tankers from Hudson, Windham and Salem responded to the scene.

 

Mar 31, 1979 - Hudson - NH - Garage/shed fire - 122 Ferry Street - A three stall garage and nearby shed were destroyed but a mobile home was saved.

 

Apr 24, 1979 - Pelham - NH - House/barn fire - Bridge Street - A vacant house fire spread to a barn burning both to the ground. Crews from Hudson, Windham, Salem, Londonderry and Dracut Mass assisted at the scene.

 

May 31, 1979 - Derry - NH - Building fire - West Broadway - A fire in a three story, block long building required 13 towns to assist in controlling the fire. Hudson sent an engine and ladder to the scene.

 

June 15, 1979 - Hudson - NH - Motorcycle accident with a double amputation - A motorcyclist lost control and crashed between two trees amputating both legs. The patient survived and still rode motorcycles.

 

Jul 16, 1979 - Windham - NH - House fire - Route 111 - A police officer on patrol spotted the blaze in a vacant house. Crews from Hudson, Pelham, Salem and Londonderry assisted at the scene.

 

Jul 31, 1979 - Hudson - NH - First baby delivery in ambulance - Central Station - Lieutenant George Fuller & Firefighters Roger Spooner and Don Cole delivered the baby girl in the ambulance after the parents drove into the station looking for help.

 

Jul 31, 1979 – Pelham – NH – Building fire – six horses perished and seven firefighters were treated for heat exposure after a fire tore through a large barn. Hudson and four other towns assisted at the scene.

 

Aug 7, 1979 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - Tolles Street Browning-Ferris Ind. - A fire involving baled paper at a recycling plant required several hours and much overhaul to control.

 

Aug 21, 1979 - Hudson - NH - Lion attack - Kimball Hill Road - Bensons Wild Animal Farm - An employee of the farm was attacked by a lion and suffered bites to the head and arms.

 

Sept 7, 1979 - Hudson - NH - Fatal motor vehicle accident - Greeley Street - A father out looking for his son that had not come home the night before found his car down an embankment. The crash had taken place during the night and had rolled over. The Jaws of Life were used to free the boy’s body.

 

Oct 31, 1979 - Hudson - NH - House fire - 3 ½ Highland Street - Fire in a second floor kitchen caused damage to the apartment.

 

Nov 9, 1979 - Hudson - NH - House fire - Greeley Street - A fire that started in the bedroom spread to the basement and to a first floor hallway.

 

Nov 10, 1979 - Hudson - NH - House fire - 70 Webster Street - A burning couch being removed from the house by residents got stuck in a doorway and spread to the area around the door. Both residents were treated for smoke inhalation.

 

Dec 10, 1979 - Hudson - NH - Chicken Coop fire - Old Derry Road - A large chicken coop was fully involved on arrival and burned to the ground.

 

1980 - Hudson - NH - Construction of the Burnshill Road Fire Station begun by department members.

 

Jan 6, 1980 - Windham - NH - House fire - Pilgrim Road - Hudson crews assisted at the scene. The fire burned through the roof of the home.

 

Jan 6, 1980 - Hudson - NH - 3 alarm - 14 Library Street - A fire in the walls spread into the attic of the 1 ½ story single family home. Nashua and Windham crews were called to the scene to control the fire.

 

Jan 21, 1980 - Hudson - NH - Tree on a car - Lowell Road - During a tree removal, the tree fell on a passing vehicle trapping two occupants. Crews needed forty minutes to free them from their crushed car.

 

Jan 26, 1980 - Litchfield - NH - House fire - Page Road - A ranch style home was heavily involved on arrival of crews. A Hudson tanker was called to the scene.

 

Jul 27, 1980 – Hudson – NH – Drowning – 23 Frenette Drive – A 3 year-old boy drown and was in cardiac arrest. Crews revived the boy with CPR.

 

Jan 31, 1980 - Hudson - NH - Busiest night of fire in history, one second alarm, one third alarm and one first alarm - 109 Derry Street, 51 Central Street & 47 Adelaide Street - An arson fire to cover a burglary destroyed a 2 ½ story home 2 alarms were need to control the fire. Feb 1 - Just as crews finished cleaning up from the Derry Street fire, a call was received reporting a house fire at 51 Central Street. On arrival crews found a large 2 ½ story home with heavy smoke showing. Three alarms were needed to control the fire with crews from Nashua and Windham assisting at the scene. Feb 1 - While crews were still working at the Central Street fire, a call was received fro a house fire at 47 Adelaide Street. Again on arrival smoke was showing from a ranch style house. Pelham and Hudson crews controlled this fire in one hour.

 

 

 

 

Feb 11, 1980 - Litchfield - NH - Building fire - Charles Bancroft Highway - A fire in a large building 2 ½ story building was arson. On arrival of crews heavy fire was showing from the second floor and attic. Crews from Hudson, Manchester and Londonderry assisted at the scene.

 

Feb 11, 1980 - Litchfield - NH - School fire - Charles Bancroft Highway - Griffin Memorial School - An unattended candle started a fire in a classroom. The fire was held to one room with a Hudson engine assisting at the scene.

 

Feb 27, 1980 - Londonderry - NH - Restaurant fire - Route 102 Sawmill Restaurant - Two Hudson tanker shuttled water to control the fire which was fully involved on arrival of Londonderry crews.     

 

Mar 9, 1980 - Hudson - NH - House fire - 108 Musquash Road - A fire started by a short circuit caused heavy damage to a 1 ½ story home. Heavy fire involved the garage and first floor of the home on arrival. Pelham assisted controlling the blaze.

 

Apr 21, 1980 - Litchfield - NH - Brush fire - Derry Road & Page Road - Several acres of brush burned requiring crews from Hudson, and Londonderry to assist controlling the blaze.

 

May 4, 1980 - Litchfield - NH - 125 acre brush fire - Hillcrest Road - 15 fire departments and 200 firefighters were needed to control the fire that at time threatened many homes in the area.

 

May 6, 1980 - Hudson - NH - 5 acre brush fire - Highland Street - a fire tower reported smoke in the area and on arrival crews found a large brush fire under the power lines.

 

Jun 19, 1980 - Hudson - NH - Explosion/fire in a house - 18 Linda Street - An explosion in a basement garage sparked a fire that caused heavy damage to the basement of the single family home.

 

 

 

July 29, 1980 - Salem - NH - Building/grandstand fire - Rockingham Park Race Track - A 12,000 seat grandstand burned requiring crews from Hudson and 10 other towns to control the fire.

 

Nov 26, 1980 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarm - 14 Pine Road Rapid Finishing Corp - heavy fire was shooting through the roof of the building on arrival of crews.

 

Dec 27, 1980 - Nashua - NH - Building fire - 55 Lake Street - While Hudson crews were covering the Lake Street Station they responded to the 4 story mill building and found a fire on the first floor.

 

Dec 28, 1980 - Nashua - NH - 3 alarms - Main Street Star Cinema - A cinema in a 5 story building caused heavy damage to the theater and second floor and caused 60 residents to be evacuated. Crews from Hudson, Merrimack and Hollis assisted at the scene.

 

Dec 29, 1980 - Hudson - NH - House fire - Clement Road – 2 Firefighters suffered minor injuries while fighting the fire after a stairway collapsed sending them into the basement. The building was destroyed.

 

1981- Hudson - NH - Mary Miller, the department’s first female firefighter to join the ranks.

 

Feb 22, 1981 - Litchfield - NH - House fire - Charles Bancroft Highway - Hudson Ladder 2 to the scene. Fire started in the chimney of the home and spread to the walls.

 

Mar 2, 1981 - Pelham - NH - House fire - Gage Hill Road - Vacant house fully involved on arrival Hudson and Windham to the scene.

 

Mar 17, 1981 - Nashua - NH - Fatal third alarm fire - Fletcher Way - The fire was in a three story block long apartment building with heavy fire showing from the second and third floors on arrival of crews. Two young girls trapped on the third floor perished in the fire. Hudson’s ambulance transported one of the victims to the hospital.

 

 

Jun 21, 1981 - Litchfield - NH - Storage building - Charles Bancroft Highway - The large building burned to the ground. Hudson crews assisted at the scene.

 

Jun 22, 1981 - Hudson - NH - House fire - Atwood Ave - Fire damaged a second floor bedroom of the home.

 

Jul 27, 1981 - Hudson - NH - Firefighter killed in tanker roll-over - 100 Wason Road - Firefighter James Taylor died from injuries he received after Tanker 4 rolled over while en-route to a car fire at 131 Wason Road. The driver of the tanker suffered severe injuries in the crash

 

Sept 1, 1981 - Hudson - NH - Barn fire - 109 Belknap Road - A large barn was fully involved on arrival of crews.

 

Sept 28, 1981 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - 14 Maple Ave - A fire in a three story apartment house had heavy smoke showing from every window and the attic of the building on arrival of crews. Crews held the fire to the first floor of the building.

 

Oct 1, 1981 - Nashua - NH - 3 alarms - 221 Main Street - The Nashua Senior Center was damaged by a fire that spread to all three floors of the building. A Hudson Engine & Ladder 2 assisted at the scene.

 

Nov 26, 1981 - Hudson - NH - Plane crash - Alvirne High School - An Ultra-Light air plane crashed into a wooded area behind the school. The pilot was not injured in the crash.

 

Dec 21, 1981 - Londonderry - NH - House fire - Shasta Drive - A Hudson Tanker assisted at the fire that involved a 1 ½ story home.

 

Dec 21, 1981 - Litchfield - NH - House/garage fire - Charles Bancroft Highway - Several firefighters suffered frost bite while battling the fire. Hudson sent an engine, ladder and ambulance to the scene.

 

 

Dec 23, 1981 - Pelham - NH - House fire - Nashua Road - A passerby reported the fire in the 2 story home. On arrival of Pelham crews, heavy fire was showing from the building. Crews from Hudson, Windham and Salem assisted at the scene.

 

1982 - Hudson - NH - Department members construct a new tanker truck from a used cab and trailer. The tractor trailer tanker was designated as Tanker 2 and ran out of Central Station.

 

1982 - Hudson - NH - A donated Chevy Van was placed into service as Rescue 1.

 

1982 - Hudson - NH - A new engine built by Grumman went into service as Engine 1.

 

Jan 5, 1982 - Nashua - NH - 2 alarms - 245 Main Street - A fire on the fourth floor of the 4 story building trapped one occupant and damaged several apartments. Nashua crews rescued the trapped occupant over an aerial ladder. Hudson Ladder 2 was called to the scene and vented the roof of the building.

 

Apr 13, 1982 - Hudson - NH - House fire - 10 Phillips Drive - A bedroom fire was held to one alarm.

 

Jun 2, 1982 - Nashua - NH - 3 alarms - Congress Street - A fire in a 3 story apartment building caused several propane tanks on balconies to explode causing firefighters to run for cover and spreading the fire. Hudson sent an Engine to the scene. One Nashua firefighter was injured when he was hit in the head by a collapsing beam.

 

Jun 8, 1982 - Pelham - NH - House fire - Woodbury Ave - Heavy fire involved the house. Crews from Hudson, Windham and Salem assisted at the scene.

 

Jul 12, 1982 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - 14 Groves Farm Road - A barn housing a local paving company was fully involved on arrival of crews. 1800 feet of hose was laid from Dracut Road into the scene for a water supply.

 

Jul 14, 1982 - Pelham - NH - House fire - ?????? - A fire in a duplex home required crews from Hudson and Windham to assist at the scene.

 

Nov 10, 1982 - Fatal motor vehicle accident - Webster Street near Sunland Drive - The passenger compartment of the single vehicle was wrapped around a tree on arrival of crews. Upon further investigation, the engine compartment was found 100 feet away in a field. The lone occupant was ejected on impact and was found in the field between both sections of the car. The driver died of the injuries he suffered in the crash. The Fire Chief stated the crash was the worst in town in 30 years.

 

Dec 4, 1982 - Hudson - NH - Basement fire - 70 Gowing Road - A single alarm fire caused heavy damage to the basement of a single family home.

 

Dec 31, 1982 - Londonderry - NH - Fatal apartment building fire - Gilcrest Road - Several alarms and many mutual aid units responded to the New Years Eve fire in a 3 story Garden Apartment building just before midnight. Hudson sent ambulances and engines to the scene. Five people lost their lives in the fire.

 

Jan 3, 1983 - Hudson - NH - Mobile home fire - 90 Kimball Hill Road - While a motorcycle was being cleaned with gasoline inside the home a cigarette ignited the fumes. The home was destroyed.

 

Mar 9, 1983 - Tyngsboro - Mass - Fatal gunshot wound - Frost Road - Hudson responded to the scene and transported one female victim that died from a gunshot wound to the

stomach.

 

Mar 26, 1983 - Nashua - NH - 5 alarms - Commercial Street - Chagnon Lumber - A fire began in a building quickly spread due to high winds engulfed the 150 foot building spreading to many nearby lumber stacks. Hudson and 16 other communities with 250 firefighters responded to the fire. All of Hudson’s engine companies and ladder responded to the scene. Fires from flying embers started fire on nearby roof tops and flying brands started a brush fire 4 miles away off of Spit Brook Road.

 

Apr 7, 1983 - Hudson - NH - Animal injury - Kimball Hill Road - Benson’s Wild Animal Farm - A trainer was injured after an elephant either kicked or pushed the man causing a severe head injury.

 

Jun 2, 1983 - Litchfield - NH - Fatal motor vehicle accident - Webster Street - A suspect involved in a police chase crashed his car into a sign and group of trees. The driver died from his injuries.

 

Jul 20, 1983 - Nashua - NH - Building fire - Hills Ferry Road - Koppers Plant - A welder started a fire that burned the roof off the building. Hudson sent a tanker to the scene.

 

Jul 22, 1983 - Hudson - NH - Fatal motor vehicle accident - Ferry Street & Burnham Road. A single vehicle wrapped around a telephone pole. Both the front and back ends of the car were touching. It took crews two hours to free the victim’s body from the vehicle.

 

Aug 24, 1983 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - 14 Meadowlark Drive - A fire that had burning for sometime before crews were notified caused heavy damage to the second floor and roof of the 2 story single family home. A firefighter received burns when a ceiling collapsed on him and another firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.

 

Sept 23, 1983 - Hudson - NH - House fire - 23 Musquash Road - Heavy smoke was showing from the two story duplex on arrival of crews. The fire was knocked down quickly.

 

Oct 1, 1983 - Hudson - NH - House fire - 8 Demery Street - A quick knockdown saved the single family home from much damage.

 

Oct 7, 1983 - Hudson - NH - A 5.2 earthquake struck town no damage was reported.

 

Oct 10, 1983 - Litchfield - NH - House fire - Charles Bancroft Highway - A fire in a large storage shed spread to an attached house. Hudson responded to the scene with an engine and tanker.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Oct 15, 1983 - Litchfield - NH - Motor vehicle accident - Charles Bancroft Highway - A victim was rescued after being trapped in her car for two days. A farm worker noticed the vehicle in a gully and upon investigation he spotted a hand coming out of the vehicle. The accident had taken place 2 days before the car was found. The driver was kept warm by a dog that was also in the car. Crews needed one hour and used the jaws of life to free the victim.            

 

Oct 18, 1983 - Hudson - NH - Fatal Helicopter Crash - Pilot of Boston WCVB-TV Bell Jet Ranger helicopter killed during a fiery crash in a parking lot of a 96 unit apartment complex.

 

Dec 11, 1983 - Hudson - NH - House fire with injury - 13 Eayers Pond Road. A resident suffered burns to his hands after trying to extinguish a fire in the living room of his home. On arrival of crews, heavy fire was showing from the windows of the 2 story building.

 

Jan 14, 1984 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - Old Derry Road - Firefighter Shawn Jasper found a fire burning in a closet in his family’s home and called the department. At the time of the fire, a heavy snow storm was hitting the area and a second alarm was sounded to bring companies to the scene faster. Crews quickly had the fire under control.

 

Jan 22, 1984 - Pelham - NH - House fire - Glendale Drive - A Hudson engine assisted Pelham crews knocking down a fire in the walls of the home.

 

Mar 3, 1984 - Litchfield - NH - 2 alarms - Charles Bancroft Highway - Heavy fire was showing from the 150 year-old 2 ½ story house on arrival of crews. Hudson sent two engines and a ladder to the scene. Hudson Engine 3 laid 2500 feet of four inch hose into the fire to supply water. Londonderry also sent an engine to the scene.

 

Mar 16, 1984 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - Chalifoux Road - Firefighter Bob Boucher spotted the flames in the 1 story barn and called the department. On arrival of the first companies, the building was fully involved. An attached barn was saved.

 

 

 

Mar 31, 1984 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - 22 Alpine Ave - A neighbor reported smoke coming from the 2 story house. Heavy fire involved the first floor of the 1 ½ story home. Crews had the fire under control in one hour.

 

Aug 10, 1984 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - Kimball Hill Road - A one stall garage burned which required an extra engine to the scene.

 

Sept ?, 1984 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - 225 Lowell Road  - Beef & Bagel Deli - A box alarm alerted crew to a fire in the deli. On arrival, smoke was showing from the building but crews held the fire to a counter area.

 

Oct 22, 1984 - Hudson - NH - 4 Alarms - Concrete Systems - Fire in boiler room - Heavy damage

 

Nov 1, 1984 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - 199 Lowell Road - A passing truck driver spotted smoke coming from the 2 ½ story house and called the department. Fire was showing on arrival of first due crews the fire was under control in a half hour.

 

Dec 10, 1984 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - 41 Dracut Road - A basement fire caused heavy fire and smoke damage to the one story home.

 

1985 - Hudson - NH - First full-time Fire Inspector hired.

 

Feb 15, 1985 - Hudson - NH - Haz-Mat - Old Derry Road & Greeley Street - A driver of an oil truck lost control and rolled over spilling 2,100 gallons of oil onto the ground. The driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.

 

Mar 20, 1985 - Hudson - NH - Brush fire - 3 Burnshill Road - A fire alarm crew working in the area spotted smoke coming from a nearby field. Before the fire could be controlled several acres burned. One firefighter suffered a knee injury while fighting the fire.

 

Jun 18, 1985 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - 17 Pelham Road - A man working on a car, cut a gasoline line spilling gas which burst into flames. Upon arrival of crews, the car and garage were fully involved.

 

Sept 20, 1985 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm extra engine - Elmwood Village - A fire in a bathroom of a building under construction caused damage to the one unit. Two firefighters and one worker were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. An extra engine was called to the scene.

 

Nov 28, 1985 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms with injury - 46 Musquash Road - A resident suffered third degree burns after rescuing his two children. On arrival, heavy fire was showing from the split level home. A firefighter was injured when a stairway he was on collapsed. Crews had the fire knocked down in two hours.

 

1986 - Hudson - NH - Several department members become certified as EOA technicians (Esophageal Obturator Airway)

 

Jan 27, 1986 - Nashua - NH - Haz-Mat - F.E. Everette Turnpike - A tanker truck carrying 2000 gallons of jet fuel rolled over on the highway. Hudson Tanker 2 responded to the scene as a water supply and remained on the scene for eight hours.

 

Feb 10, 1986 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - 145 Dracut Road Pids Auto - The fire spread due to a delay in calling the department. Heavy smoke was coming from the building on arrival of crews. One employee was transported for smoke inhalation.

 

Mar 17, 1986 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - 201 Robinson Road - A passerby called in the fire after he saw smoke coming from the house. The fire involved the walls around a wood stove.

 

Mar 18, 1986 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - Library Street & Central Street - Crews responded for a street box and on arrival found heavy smoke and fire showing from a single family home with a resident trapped on a porch roof. The fire was held to one alarm.

 

Mar 26, 1986 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - River Road - Brookside Market - Firefighter George Roy spotted the fire and called the department. On arrival, heavy fire was coming from the front of the 1 story building.

 

Apr ?, 1986 – Hudson – NH – Rescue - Ferry Street – A child became stuck in a backyard fireplace chimney. Crews had to break open the chimney to free the child.

 

Jun 6, 1986 - Hudson - NH - Firefighter Tim Kearns became the first trained EMT - I for the department. He gives the first IV in the field at an auto accident on Central Street.

 

1987 - Hudson - NH - Several members participate in SCUBA training and form the Hudson Fire Department Dive Team

         
Jan 29, 1987 - Hudson - NH - 3 alarms - Rolling Green Condo’s - A four unit 3 story condo building had 3 units heavily involved with the fire spreading into the fourth unit on arrival. Three firefighters were injured fighting the blaze.

 

Feb 16, 1987 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - Bush Hill Road - A mobile home flashed over just as crews arrived on the scene and became fully involved.

 

Feb 22, 1987 - Hudson - NH - 3 alarms - 37 Central Street - American Legion Building - heavy smoke was showing from the basement bar area of the 3 story building on arrival of crews. The fire was centered in the ceiling and walls. The fire was under control in one hour. One firefighter was injured fighting the fire.

 

Mar 5, 1987 - Nashua - NH - 4 alarms - Elm Street - The block long three story furniture companies building became heavily involved with fire shooting through the roof. Hudson sent two engines and a ladder to the scene. A Hudson firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation. Hudson crews remained on the scene for nine hours.

 

Mar 11, 1987 - Hudson - NH - Fatal motor vehicle accident - 199 Lowell Road - A head-on crash required two sets of the Jaws of Life to free the two trapped drivers. One vehicle was on its roof and required 2 ½ hours to free the driver. She died from her injuries a few hours later.

 

Mar 29, 1987 - Lowell - Mass - 9 alarms - Hudson Engine 4 and Ladder 2 along with crews from 20 other communities were needed to control a fire that involved five - five story block long mill buildings. Hudson crews remained on the scene for 24 hours.

 

Apr 10, 1987 - Hudson - NH - Flooding several areas of town - Sand bagging details were required in several neighborhoods after heavy rain and melting snow caused many streams and the Merrimack River to over flow their banks.

 

May 21, 1987 - Hudson - NH - Fire Engine/vehicle accident - Engine 2 responding to a box alarm was involved in a motor vehicle accident after a car pulled out in front of the engine. The Jaws of Life were needed to free the driver of the car and two firefighters were transported for minor injuries.

 

May 28, 1987 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - Paget Drive - A fire in an attached garage of a split level home caused moderate damage.

 

Jun 7, 1987 - Hudson - NH - 3 alarms - 109 Belknap Road - A flashover drove firefighters from the building and exploding small arms ammunition required an exterior attack. Several firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion. Crews from Nashua and Londonderry assisted at the scene.

 

June 15, 1987 - Nashua - NH - 2 alarms - While Hudson Engine & Ladder 2 were covering Nashua’s Station 3, they were sent to Brook Village Road for an apartment building fire. On arrival heavy fire and smoke were showing from the building.

 

Aug 28, 1987 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - 148 Webster Street - A fire in a second floor bedroom caused damage to the 2 ½ story home.

 

Aug 30, 1987 - Hudson - NH - 1 alarm - 8 Rega Street - A partition fire caused damage to a living room wall of a 1 ½ story home.

 

Nov 14, 1987 - Hudson - NH - Drowning - Sagamore Bridge - Lieutenant Todd Hansen crossing the bridge noticed people looking into the river. He was told a woman had jumped from the bridge trying to kill herself. The dive team was called out for its first response. After a three hours search in 41 degree water, the victims body was found.

 

 

 

Nov 15, 1987 - Hudson - NH - Multiple victim motor vehicle accident - Library at School Streets - while crews were covering the station for another call, they witnessed a two car accident with a total of 8 persons injured. Ambulances from Derry, Pelham, Windham, Rockingham and three Hudson ambulances transported the injured to the hospital.   

 

Dec 12, 1987 - Hudson - NH - Dive Team activation - Veterans Bridge - Dive Team members searched the river after witnesses reported seeing a man jump from the bridge. A short time later, a witness reported he saw a water soaked man leave the area.

 

1988 - Hudson - NH - Three new pieces of apparatus placed in service. A tanker built by Ranger went into service as Tanker 5 at the Burnshill Station, a new heavy rescue truck was placed in service as Rescue 1 at Central Station and the Departments first modular type ambulance was placed in service at Central Station.

 

1988 - Hudson - NH - The work schedule for suppression crews went to the 10 - 14 system. Crews now worked two ten hour days from 08:00 to 18:00 hours then two nights for 18:00 to 08:00 hours with four days off. Manning was four shifts of six.

 

Jan 4, 1988 - Hudson - NH - The Burnshill Road Fire Station manned from 08:00 to 18:00 hours with two firefighters. This manning of the station only lasted two years.

 

Jan 14, 1988 - Litchfield - NH - Child birth - Derry Road - Firefighters Craig Phillips, Tim Kearns, Pete Collishaw and Dave Morin delivered a baby girl in the back of the ambulance. The first baby delivery for all of them.

 

Mar 20, 1988 - Nashua - NH - 5th Alarm - 8-16 Maple St - 3 Story Brick Apartment bldg - Halfway house - Heavy fire through roof. Hudson crews to the scene.

 

May 23, 1988 - Hudson - NH - Mobile home fire - 90 Kimball Hill Road - A fire destroyed a mobile home. An extra engine was called to the scene.

Jun 1, 1899 – Hudson – NH - Hudson - NH - Firefighters Union established under the Name - Professional Firefighters of Hudson, IAFF Local 3154. First Union President was Todd Hansen.

 

Jun 14, 1988 - Nashua - NH - 7 alarms - Palm Street - Batesville Casket - A fire starting in a cutting machine spread to many areas of the five story, 2 block long building. Twenty departments were called to the scene with Hudson sending two engines and a ladder to the scene. Engine 4 laid a supply line across Main Street to the fire 5 blocks away.

 

Aug 5, 1988 - Hudson - NH - Chemical leak - South end of Hudson - A chemical leak at the Hampshire Chemical Plant in Nashua spread fumes into Hudson requiring an evacuation of much of South Hudson. The incident lasted over 7 hours and eight Hudson firefighters were taken to the hospital for chemical exposure. 

 

Aug 22, 1988 - Nashua - NH - 5 alarms with rescues - 67 Palm Street - A fire in a large apartment building trapped several children. Nashua Firefighters rescued the children. One child that was not breathing was transported to the hospital by Hudson Ambulance 1 and a second injured child was transported by Hudson Ambulance 2. Engine and Ladder 2 crews assisted attacking the fire.

 

Aug 31, 1988 - Hudson - NH - Building fire - ? Derry Street - unknown type or extent of a fire

 

Feb 26, 1989 - Hudson - NH - Person through the ice - Ottarnic Pond - Children reported a teenager feel through the ice and Dive Team members search the water in the area finding nothing. It was later learned the person had gotten out of the water before arrival of crews.

 

Mar 8, 1989 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarm building fire - 1 ½ Highland Street - A 2 story apartment building had heavy smoke showing and exposure problems on arrival of crews.

 

May 14, 1989 - Merrimack - NH - Drowning - Manchester Street - Bowers Pond - Dive Team members pulled the body of a 16 year old boy from the pond but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

 

 

 

Jul 18, 1989 - Nashua - NH - flammable liquid railroad tank car roll over - Crown Street - Hudson Engine 3 laid 1600 feet of supply line for a water supply and remained on the scene for six hours.

 

Jul 29, 1989 - Goffstown - NH - Boat accident - Piscataquog River - Dive Team members searched the river and found the body of one victim.

 

Oct 31, 1989 - Hudson - NH - 4 alarms - 222 Central Street - Central Street Plaza - Crews responding to a box alarm found heavy fire in one store unit of a two story 400 foot building. Fire crews from Nashua, Pelham and Windham assisted at the scene. One firefighter was injured fighting the fire.

 

Nov 24, 1989 - Hudson - NH - 2 alarms - 90 Kimball Hill Road - Heavy smoke and fire were showing from a mobile home on arrival of crews. Crews from Nashua, Litchfield and Windham assisted at the scene. One firefighter was injured fighting the fire.

 

Dec 25, 1989 - Nashua - NH - 3 alarms - Vine Street - Hudson Engine and Ladder 2 assisted on the Christmas Day fire in a large apartment building.

 

Dec 28, 1989 - Hudson - NH - 3 fires within 2 hours - 46 Pelham Road two alarms were needed to control a heavily involved barn. Nashua and Londonderry crews assisted at the scene. While crews were still fighting the Pelham Road fire, Litchfield and Pelham crews were sent to 29 Library Street for a dryer fire. The fire was held to the wall around the dryer. A third fire was toned a few minutes later at 2 Spear Road. On arrival of Nashua, Londonderry and Pelham crews they found a fire in a second floor bathroom.
